Tishomingo State Park in the foothills of the Appalachians in Mississippi is steeped in both history and scenery. Paleo Indians lived in the area as early as 7000 B.C. The park actually takes its name from the leader of the Chickasaw nation, Chief Tishomingo. The Natchez Trace Parkway runs through the park, and massive rock formations and ferny rock crevices found nowhere else in Mississippi are on display here.
Temperatures at the park stay mild most of the year - with an average high of 90F in the hottest summer months, and a low around 27F during the coldest. However, since it’s Mississippi, it can get quite humid and can feel hotter than it is!

Tishomingo State Park
Inside Tishomingo State Park
There are lots of things to do inside the park. From hiking to swimming to other outdoor activities, here are some of the things you can do inside the park:
Swimming: The swimming pool overlooks Bear Creek near the cabins, and is one of the main draws for the park. The facility includes bathrooms and showers, and is fenced in. There is an admission fee and armbands are required. The pool costs $4 for children 3-12, and $6 for those over 13.
Canoe float trip: Bear Creek winds through the park, and there is a guided 6.25 mile canoe float trip down the stream. Float by scenic sandstone bluffs, lush greenery, hardwood and pine trees, shoals, and Class 1 rapids. The trip costs $40, and everything you need is provided by the park - canoes, paddles, lifejackets, and transportation.
Fishing: There is fishing available at Haynes Lake, a 45-acre freshwater lake. The lake stocks catfish, bream, and bass. A boat launch and parking are available, and a fishing license is required for everyone between 16-65.
Disc golf course: There are three disc golf courses at the park. Each course consists of 18 holes, and they’re located in different areas of the park to take advantage of the varied, scenic terrain. You can rent discs at the park office, or purchase one of your own.
Compass course: Learn to use a compass and develop your navigational skills at the park’s compass course. It’s a five leg course that loops back to the point of beginning.
How to Get to
Tishomingo State Park
The park is at Milepost 304 along the Natchez Trace Parkway. If you’re headed northbound on MS Hwy 25, it’s 7 miles north of Belmont. If you’re southbound on MS Hwy 25, it’s 2 miles south of Tishomingo. The address is 105 C.R. 90, Tishomingo, MS.

There is an entrance fee of $4 per vehicle, plus $0.50 for each person over 6 people.
