Inside Florence Marina State Park

Those who love water sports come to Florence Marina State Park because of its 45,000-plus acre lake. This lake connects to a marina that offers boat slip rentals as well as a fishing pier that is handicap accessible. Bald eagles and herons are just some of the wild animals that you might see when hiking through the park. The Kirbo Interpretive Center makes it easy to learn about those animals as well as the Native American history in the region. Don't forget to rent a bike when you arrive to get around the park.

You don't need to spend your whole trip in Florence Marina State Park because there are loads of attractions just a short drive away. Hit up a few restaurants to get some delicious food before visiting a museum. Neighboring towns have stores where you can grab essentials and souvenirs too.

Not far over the state line is this shop, which fishing enthusiasts claim is the best place to buy their bait and tackle. Piggly Wiggly

Dahlonega Gold Museum

Learn about the Georgia Gold Rush and the men who came to the region to seek their fortunes at this museum. Open daily, the Dahlonega Gold Museum features dozens of exhibits and is inside a historic home preserved by the county.

1884 Lumpkin County Jail and Museum

Though you might think that visiting a jail isn't something that you want to do on vacation, this museum will change your mind. The 1884 Lumpkin County Jail and Museum is on the National Register of Historic Places and retains its original design, which has cells on the second floor and a private home on the first.

Providence Canyon State Park

Providence Canyon State Park is close to Florence Marina State Park and home to more than 1,000 acres. Nicknamed the Little Grand Canyon, the park has a museum that is open year-round and a visitor center that is open on a seasonal basis. The park also features an astronomy program and more than 10 miles of hiking trails.

Museum of Wonder Drive-Thru

One of the top roadside attractions in the area is this drive-thru museum that lets you see art without getting out of your car. The museum is open 24-hours a day and seven days a week. You can make a donation when you leave.

Backyard Orchards

Open from March through November every year, the Backyard Orchards is the perfect place to pick local produce. You'll find certain produce available from one season to the next as well as ice cream and other delicious foods in the on-site cafe.

How to Get to
Florence Marina State Park

Take Highway 520 from Albany until you reach Richmond and then get on Georgia 27. Follow this road through Lumpkin to Georgia 39C. You'll follow this road for approximately 16 miles until you come to a stop sign. The entrance to the park is right across the street.

Florence Marina State Park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Campers have access to park facilities 24/7.
