Bollinger Mill State Historic Site

Located 19 miles from the western part of Cape Girardeau, the Bollinger Mill State Historic Site dates back to the 19 century and provide a birds-eye-view of how the milling industry thrived done during those times. Aside from taking a tour of this enormous and extensive four-story mill, you can also take a walk through the Burfordville Covered Bridge, the oldest surviving covered bridge in the entire state. The bridge is 140 feet long and spans over the Whitewater River. The site is a great place to spend hours exploring the river or picnicking

This region is called the agricultural garden of the state, and visiting the Beggs Family Farm located in Sikeston is one way of finding out why. It is a real farm established in in 1895, and part of the Beggs Melon Company. The farm is all about watermelons with about 200 acres of land planted with it! This farm is best visited during the fall when a 10-acre corn maze called “The Maize” awaits you and the family. Your adventure does not end with the maze; you can work on your own patch, enjoy a wagon ride, or sit back and watch your kids interact with farm animals or having fun in its two large play areas. At the end of the day, you can even have a bonfire and some delicious food prepared by their cooks.

Amidon Memorial Conservation Area

A 1,630-acre forested area nestled between the Bollinger and Madison counties, the Amidon Memorial Conservation Area, is a great place for you to commune with nature. You can spend days in this lush green area where you can enjoy hiking in its trails and be awed by the different species of timber, ranging from mixed hardwoods to cedar glades. If you are an ornithologist or simply a bird watcher, you will love this area as it the home of more than 86 species, and has been designated as an important bird area. You can also go fishing in the Castor River, which is known for its fair population of bass and sunfish. Hunting and trapping is allowed as long as you have the necessary permits.

Aside from visiting these haunted places, you get to hear chilling and eerie stories about the town, which is believed to be one of the most haunted places in the country. The hauntings are said to be caused by local mysteries, civil war battles, the great quakes of 1811-1812, fires, murders and flood. Be prepared to be scared!

Held every spring in the city of Sikeston, the Crawfish Boil and Music Festival aims to provide entertainment and lots of fun both for locals and tourists. It features a crawfish cook-off participated by numerous teams who are dead serious in showing off their creative cooking skills, with crawfish as the main ingredient of course!
