Bryan has a population of approximately 83,000 people. The history of Bryan can be traced back to 1821 when Moses Austin received a land grant from the Mexican government to settle 300 families in Texas. Austin's son, Stephen F. Austin, led the first group of settlers to the area in 1822. The town was initially named "Boonville" after Mordecai Boon, one of Stephen F. Austin's surveyors.

However, the name was later changed to "Bryan" in honor of William Jennings Bryan, who fought for the free silver movement during the late 19th century. The city also became known for its textile mills and brick kilns. In 1904, the first cotton gin in Brazos County was built in Bryan. The construction of the Houston and Texas Central Railway through Bryan in 1867 led to an economic boom for the city.
