A gorgeous destination that lies a bit off the beaten path, Apalachicola National Forest is where you will find some of the best fishing in the state, as well as hunting, camping, mountain biking/hiking, and even horseback riding opportunities. Because of its seclusion, it’s the perfect getaway for those looking for a bit of solitude and reflection.
Two words: Whitewater rafting. This park features the biggest and best rapids in the state, and if you’ve never been to Big Shoals State Park, you simply don’t know what you’re missing out on. If you are not into Whitewater rafting, you can still enjoy taking a hike, snapping pictures, fishing.
Even non-RV folks will appreciate the Willow Pond Plantation. Cabin rentals are available here, and Willow Pond is a vacation destination in its own right. A weeklong festival celebrating all things Medieval and Renaissance! This festival runs from January 24 to the 30th, and is filled with sights, sounds and events you’ll be hard pressed to find anywhere else. From ancient glass blowing techniques to blacksmithing how-tos and more, you can learn an amazing amount at this festival and have a great time doing so.
If the medieval scenes aren’t for you, and let’s face it, it’s not for everyone, come in October to check out the Asian Festival. There’s nothing else quite like it anywhere in Florida or beyond. Get a taste of the Orient in more ways than one, with street vendors and food galore. There’s enough here to keep food and culture fans happy!
