When we initially went to pick up the RV, Carol was kind. She had previously mentioned in a private email, that we could bring the RV back the morning after our booking if we paid her an additional $100 . At the time of the rental however she stated this would be impossible, as she was booking the RV the next day. I stated that we would be able to bring the RV back that night, but we might be a little late. My mother-in-law had a flight to Japan in the late hours of that day and we would definitely be coming to Seattle metro hour prior to her flight. I also informed her that I would be a physician at an Eclipse Festival in Central Oregon, and that I was scheduled to work on that last day and my wife would be returning the RV.
The RV at time of rental had a couple of items that were not appropriately fixed, a broken sideboard to the overhead bed and a few other things like a nonfunctioning external LED strip. She stated she hadn't had time to fix it, as her RV was in such demand. We were camped on the east side of the Cascade Mountain Range, in an area which the locals called the high desert. There were raging winds and a lot of dust, as it was a flat prairie. My wife with three kids in tow, returned the RV at 8 pm on the day of our scheduled return which was listed at 5pm. Carol had previously agreed that it was ok to bring the RV in a little late, as she had reneged on our initial agreement as long as we notified her. We had no cell-phone reception at the festival, and my wife called her that moment she had reception while driving the RV.
Upon returning the RV, Carol tore in to my wife stating that the RV was excessively dirty and she was going to charge $50 per hour that the RV was late. She yelled at my wife, and made her cry in the most belittling fashion.
Keep in mind this is in front of my wife's mother, and our three daughters.
She went on to say that one of the floor boards to one of the slide out beds had fallen off, and she was going to charge $75 for that(her husband had mentioned that this had fallen off in the past and there was no need to pin this on us). In addition to the $150 she charged for the RV being returned three hours late(despite her changing our initial terms of me bringing the RV back the next morning), she charged $200 for a deep cleaning of the awning and $100 for additional cleaning of the RV. Hence the total charges were $200(awning) +$100(deep clean) + $150(3 hours late) + $75(for the slide out board that came off). She agreed to let my wife pay $500 for the total cost.
When I arrived to Seattle the next morning I was outraged. She had manipulated my wife, who is extremely soft spoken. I sent her an email informing her that I was outraged. I explained that I understood that the RV was dirty, and that I was ok with a total charge of $200 for a deep cleaning. I told her it was unacceptable to treat another fellow being in such a fashion, and asked her to respond otherwise I would inform the RV share community of our interaction with her. It has been now 10 days, and I have yet to hear from her. The RV was fun to be in, however my family's experience with the owner was deplorable. She has yet to email me and address my concerns.
