Huron-Manistee National Forests

The Huron-Manistee National Forests are two national forests which have been combined to cover a total area of over 978,000 acres. The forests also provide visitors with over 330 miles of trails for walking, hiking, and biking, meaning that you’ll certainly be spoiled for choice. These trails also cater towards every type of hiker, whether you’re a beginner or are more experienced. The forest areas are also sprinkled with towns and private properties, meaning that it’s not one continuous and complete national forest. This provides visitors with lots of activities and attractions to enjoy, however, as passing through the Huron-Manistee National Forests also allows for plenty of sight-seeing!

While RV access is allowed, no RV hook-ups are available for water, sewage or electricity at any of the national forest-managed campgrounds. The western Michigan city of Holland is located on the shores of both the Michigan and Macatawa lakes and contains a rich Dutch heritage, as seen throughout the city’s events and attractions.

The Windmill Island Gardens is one of the most popular places to visit within this region, particularly because it contains the famous 251-year-old windmill, De Zwaan. It’s the only real, working Dutch windmill in the United States, so it’s definitely an attraction you won’t want to miss. In May, the place transforms into a rainbow of flowers, as more than 100,000 tulips begin to bloom. You’ll feel as though you’re in the Netherlands!
