Once a powerful prehistoric community in the 14th century, Moundville was the largest city north of Mexico. Located on the banks of the Black Warrior River, the archaeology park preserves over 326 acres where Mississippian Indians constructed massive flat-topped earthen pyramids over 800 years ago.
