Have you ever seen a drawer that is bigger than a house or a building? If you haven’t and want to see one, you will find not one but two in High Point! The world’s largest chest of drawers is part of the main building of Furnitureland South, the largest furniture store in the world, and measures more than 80-foot tall! You can also check out the world’s largest freestanding chest of drawers, the 38-foot tall Goddard-Townsend block front chest with a six foot tall pair of socks hanging out. Both chest of drawers pays tribute to the High Point’s reputation as the “Furniture Capital of the World”. Unfortunately, you can’t bring back these drawers home but you can sure take a “selfie” in front of them!
A great place to visit if you are fascinated with butterflies, the All-A-Flutter Butterfly Farm is just 8 miles from the center of High Point. The butterfly farm is a family owned and operated farm, which raises thousands of Monarchs annually. A tour of the farm begins with a learning presentation of the body parts of butterflies, their lifecycle, the Monarch migrations, differences between butterflies and moths, and what do caterpillars eat. You can also be up close and personal especially when you are given a sugar pad so you can hand feed the butterflies. It is an awesome and unique experience, which spells a lot of fun for both kids and adults. Tours during the week are by appointment and for groups of 20 or more. The farm is open to everyone, alone or with a group, every Saturday except during the winter season when the farm is close.
A quick 11-minute drive from High Point will bring you to the Maize Adventure located in the city of Archdale. The Maize Adventure features numerous fun activities , one of which is the is Corn Maze, the most famous corn maze in the state and guaranteed to be a fun experience for both kids and adults, as you walk through miles of twisting and turning pathways. Aside from the corn maze, your kids will have fun in two of its jumping pillows, a hop-a-long-rodeo, a cow train ride, and a whole lot more. The Oak Hollow Family Campground is a city owned and maintained beautiful campground and your best option if you want to be just minutes away from the numerous attractions of High Point. It is located along the along the banks of Oak Hollow Lake, in a quiet and peaceful area where you relax and commune with nature. The campground has 110 total spaces, 84 of which are shaded full hookup sites. Amenities and services include a swimming pool, playground, wifi-internet access and cable TV, laundry facilities, restrooms and showers, water activities and a control access gate. The Oak Hollow Family Campground is open all year round.
Located in the city of Asheboro just a few miles from High Point, the Zooland Family Campground is a family oriented campground with grassy and wooded areas. It will keep your kids busy with its numerous activities just for them! It has a total of 167 spaces, 88 of which are shaded full hookup sites with room for slideouts. Amenities and services include a family recreation hall, game room, family and children’s pool, fame room, horseshoe pits, miniature golf, basketball court, bocce ball, playground, camp store, and river fishing. Located about 20 miles from High Point, the Greensboro Campground is a full service RV Park that is just a short distance from the center of Greensboro. The annual High Point Cycling Classic is a two-day event for both men and women. The “Crit” courses will be run on closed-off city street loop right in the heart of High Point. Aside from the races, the High Point Cycling Classic features live music entertainment throughout the day, a kid’s zone where kids can enjoy numerous activities and games, food and beverage vendors, and expo vendors. The event is open to the public.
The John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival is an annual festival that pays homage to the life and music of John Coltrane, one of High Point’s most famous and influential citizens. It also aims to enhance the lives of others and provide a learning opportunity about jazz and other musical genres. The jazz festival draws in thousands of jazz aficionados from all over the country who want to listen to their favorite jazz artists perform live.
