Foster is a town located on the western border of Providence County, Rhode Island, about 15 miles from the city of Providence. The town has a population of around 4,500 people. Initially incorporated with Scituate in 1780, it became a separate and distinct township in 1781. Foster is bordered by Glocester to the north, Scituate to the east, Coventry to the south, and Killingly and Sterling in Connecticut to the west.
