Argyle, Texas is a suburb of Fort Worth with a population of just over 4,400 people. Located in Denton County, Texas, the city consists of just 11.4 square miles and offers its residents and visitors a small-town environment with all of the benefits of the three major cities located nearby: Denton, Dallas, and Fort Worth.

From 1850 to 1867, European settlers tied to the Peters Colony began moving into the area that would become Argyle. In the mid-1800s, the town was known as Pilot Knob or Waintown and was renamed Argyle in 1881 after the town was made a stop on the Texas and Pacific Railroad. It is said that a railroad surveyor named the town Argyle either after a garden in France or a region of Scotland.

Argyle has seen some ebbs and flows in its population. By the 1880s, there was a bank, churches, and a booming agricultural industry. In 1895, a fire destroyed the city. It was rebuilt quickly by 1900, but when the Great Depression came, Argyle was hit hard, and by 1950, there were fewer than 100 people living there. In recent years, reverse migration has begun to occur as people living in large cities like Dallas and Fort Worth have begun to move to less crowded suburbs like Argyle.

Because of its small-town feel, proximity to large Texas cities, and the recreational activities offered, Argyle is growing each year. Whether you are looking for a home base to visit Dallas or the numerous state and national parks nearby or just want to get away and relax, Argyle is a good place to visit.
