Tour the dam at Minneapolis' St. Anthony Falls Visitor Center and then learn more about the river and its history at the Mississippi River Visitor Center located in St. Paul's Science Museum of Minnesota. In the spring, go on a bike ride at Coon Rapids Dam, watch the birds at Fort Snelling State Park, and see the wildflowers at Crosby Farm Regional Park. Once summer arrives, take advantage of the Paddle Share Program to go on a Mississippi River canoeing adventure or the Nice Ride Program to go on a bike tour with a park ranger. Fall is the perfect time to see the autumn colors at Battle Creek Regional Park, at Minnehaha Regional Park, or along the Windchime Trail. This park is a fantastic place to explore in the winter when you can see white-tail deer at Fort Snelling State Park and eagles at Hasting's River Flats Park.

How To Get To Mississippi National River and Recreation Area

A great way to learn more about the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area is to start at the visitor center inside the Science Center of Minnesota. If you are visiting the state capital, then it is easy to get to this location. Start by going south on Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard and turn right on John Ireland Boulevard. In 0.4 miles, turn left on Kellogg Boulevard, and the destination will be on your right in about 0.7 miles.
