Lake Chelan National Recreation Area

Lake Chelan National Recreation Area, which is part of North Cascades National Park, is a haven for adventurers who want to get off the beaten path. Located deep in the Cascade Mountains at the northern end of Lake Chelan, this is one of the most remote spots in the lower 48. You won't get a phone signal, and the only way to get in is by boat or seaplane — unless you're up for the 23-mile hike from the North Cascades Highway to the valley shuttle. The hardy few who make the long journey are rewarded with spectacular mountain scenery and exceptional lakeside hiking. Relax by the water in the small community of Stehekin, or spend your days camping, biking, kayaking, swimming, and fishing.
