Duplex Vintage Trailer: You Won’t Believe this Opportunity

Freedom of the open road—many people long to own and travel in their own motorhome. You can visit a variety of locations and see the sights across the nation while in the comfort of your own home. Even if you only use it for vacations and weekend trips, it is much more convenient being able to have your belongings with you rather than dragging your bags into a motel room where you sleep in someone else’s bed.

Light House Trailer

For many, the notion of owning their own RV seems like a fantasy. New ones are typically quite expensive. Gently used options are often not much less costly. Vintage trailers, on the other hand, can often be very affordable. Depending on the age, model, and number of repairs that need to be made, you may be able to easily purchase an older RV with a minimal investment.

Take this 1953 Light House Trailer for example.

1953 Light House Exterior

This rare double-decker Light House trailer provides 48 feet of space in merely 28 feet of length and 8-feet of width. Also, being only 11.5-feet tall, driving it under overpasses isn’t a problem.

Built in 1953, this is a fixer-upper, and part of the roof may need to be replaced. Most of the exterior needs, however, are merely superficial.

Vintage Trailer Interior

Although this particular model has fallen into disrepair, from the floor plan it is clear that in its prime this was a deluxe trailer.

With ample closet and cabinet space, storage wouldn’t have been a problem. Plus, the two bedrooms allow occupants to spread out and have their own spaces.

Light House Living Room

Much of the drywall and paneling needs to be replaced due to water damage.

The large assortment of drawers and cabinets are in impeccable condition. And a large mirror adds the illusion of more space.

Travel Trailer Kitchen

Although the paneling in the kitchen needs to be replaced, the numerous cabinets appear to be in good shape.

A quick refinishing would bring them up to date. The sink and counters can be replaced with modern options to make over the space.

The original icebox has been decorated with stickers and magnets, giving it a very unique personality.

A new appliance would likely be less visually invasive and more energy efficient. The electric water heater is located in this area as well.

Vintage Trailer Bathroom

The bathroom has all of the original porcelain fixtures intact.

A quick clean up would bring it back to its former glory. The space could be entirely updated by replacing the fixtures with modern ones.

Trailer’s Stairway

Due to a soft spot in the downstairs hallway, part of the floor would require replacement. The stairs, however, are sound with only cosmetic changes needed.

1953 Trailer Bedrooms

The two bedrooms are located upstairs.

Each is self-contained with individual closets and bedside shelves.

The walls, floors, and windows are intact, but the ceiling in the bedrooms needs to be replaced.

In Conclusion

As you can see, this trailer needs a bit of work, but the foundation is good. When considering a classic style, such as this, the possibilities are nearly endless. With a bit of work, an option like this can be returned to its former glory providing an RV unlike most that you see on the road. Please share this with any friends or family members looking for an RV or travel trailer. You may inspire them to open their minds to the more “mature” members of the motorhome family. These pictures are sure to provide that encouragement.
