Built by William Hooker Gillette, actor, director, and playwright, the Gillette Castle sits on 184 acres. The 24 room mansion is reminiscent of a medieval castle. Now owned by the State of Connecticut, the property is open for visitors.

Gillette personally oversaw the building of the castle and its many hand carved features. All of the woodwork within the castle is hand-crafted southern white oak and each carving is different. Furnished with built-in couches, tables on tracks, and hand-carved light switches, his creativity is evident. When visiting Connecticut, don’t miss the Gillette Castle State Park.

Why you’ll love Wolf’s Den Family Campground

This is a family oriented campground and they go out of their way to make families welcome. From spring through fall, every weekend has themed planned activities for family fun. The campground is well-located with plenty of activities onsite and nearby.

Reviews of Wolf’s Den Family Campground

“We loved everything about Wolf’s Den except the tight roads within the park. It was a lovely wooded campground with a kind of state park feel. The weekend was busy but during the week it was very quiet. We loved that it was very convenient to a lot of area attractions – it provided a good home base. We loved coming back in the late afternoon and taking a dip in the well maintained pool.” – RunAroundSue, RV Park Reviews

This is a great place for good old fashioned camping, where you would have to think about how to entertain yourselves. This is now my daughter’s new favorite place to camp. She loved the fact that the available activities weren’t so regimented like in other campgrounds. She could play games whenever she wanted outside of the schedule. The cost to use the equipment is a nominal deposit. From a parent point of view, the grounds were clean. The pool bathrooms were so-so. The pool was clean, large and great temperature. The landscaping appeared to be kept up.” – eyerishangel, RV Park Reviews.

Reviews of  Witch Meadow Lake Family Campground

“Great spot (#9), right on the lake so we could fish right from our site. Staff was super friendly, key card access, great country store and beach. Would have liked full sewer hookup at the site, but I understand being on the water gravity is working against you. Lots of activities for our boys, almost like a summer camp. Highly recommend going. Bring your kayak and fishing pole!”-Pshaine, RV Park Reviews

Nice park with a nice lake, however, a pool is needed at this park. Park is clean and camp store is very nice. Road is tight for those of us with bigger rigs. My 32′ five wheel was difficult. Owner frequently driving around and making sure everything is good.“-Radmad, RV Park Reviews

Why you’ll love GrandView CampResort

The GrandView has a beautiful country setting with old fashioned entertainment. There is a game room with plenty of games for the kids. The store has a room for board games, books, and a good wifi connection.

Reviews of GrandView CampResort

“Quiet campground. Site are open and level. Owners take a lot of pride in the campground. Not much in the way of activities but there is a pool, arcade and a room above the office with books, board games and puzzles. Bathrooms are clean and showers are free. Campstore has basics, there is a small market and a few restaurants close by.” -JJZS, RV Park Reviews

“This is our 3rd trip the Grand View. I am still amazed on all the continued improvements, some of which are 7 new W/E/S sites with 4 more in the works. Bathrooms & showers by pool area were clean but found shower stalls cramped and tough to move around in. Most of the new W/E/S sites are pull thru and excess seems easy even with the larger Class A’s.

Geography at the campground is mostly open on a slightly graded hill. Grounds are well maintained. Interior roads and sites dirt and crushed stone. Our W/E hookups were in good working order and no problem backing into our site. WiFi was very good, okay signal on our Verizon cell phone. Grandview is located in a beautiful country area which just adds more character to an already great little country campground that caters to the quieter crowd. Owners were professional, friendly and informative and will go out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable. Would certainly return again or recommend this place to anyone.” -mdcamping, RV Park Reviews

“I stayed here again in July with my 2 kids. The staff is very helpful, friendly and the place is very clean. I found sitting at the pool their seasonal people are very welcoming to us non seasonal guest. We DID NOT pay for a single activity except when they played candy bingo. That was fifty cents and they had a ball. We attended their dance with a great energetic DJ on Saturday night and enjoyed some fired dough and ice cream for the kids at the snack bar.”-FPguy, RV Park Reviews

Lots of events always going on in the campground. Being from Texas, we had to attend the Texas BBQ meal and hoe-down. They did a good job!”– Donny and Donna, RV Park Reviews

The beaches are easily accessible on foot and the Long Island Sound was really calm and pleasant to swim in even in late September. Meg’s Point nature area was a nice bike ride through the park and featured an impressive rocky beach which was really fun to climb and explore. (Or just to sit and view). Very, very pleasant.” – Jim and Ben, RV Park Reviews
