Top 10 Mississippi Gulf Coast Campgrounds & RV Parks

Salt, sand, surf, and seafood: that’s what Mississippi’s Gulf Coast is all about.

If you’re looking for a summer fun destination, Mississippi’s small but diverse shoreline should be at the top of your list. However, thanks to sunny southern climates, the beaches here are worth visiting year-round. That’s just one of many reasons why the Gulf Coast is a long-time favorite for RV travelers in Mississippi.

Less popular than their Floridian cousins to the east but just as beautiful and lively, the beaches along the Mississippi shore are a brilliant vacation option for RV campers who want affordable destinations that aren’t too overcrowded. While Mississippi’s Gulf Coast draws a vibrant crowd every spring and summer, it’s much easier to find a campground where you can park it for the night than it can be in some of the country’s more well-known coastal cities.

From the Louisiana border to the shores of Alabama’s Gulf Coast, there are plenty of coastal towns, cities, and parks along the Mississippi Gulf Coast that are worth visiting. At the far east side of the state, you’ll find secluded beaches along marshy coastal preserves and within Buccaneer State Park, bordered by the lovely Pearl River. Just a short drive across the state line will put you in the iconic city of New Orleans.

Toward the center of Alabama’s Gulf Coast, you’ll find its biggest city: Gulfport. The stretch of shoreline surrounding Mississippi’s 2nd largest city contains the Gulf Coast’s most popular beach destinations — white sand beaches that look out over the Gulf of Mexico. The water is warm and the views and postcard perfect.

If you like seafood, you’re in for a treat. Fresh catches, ranging from shrimp and tuna to snapper, flounder, and grouper are brought to the ports here each morning, and the restaurants in the area are famed for their seafood dishes. Fried, flaky catfish and Cajun-style shrimp po’ boys are a must try.

A ferry also leaves from Gulfport each day to take visitors to the picturesque Ship Island, which was named one of the top 10 beaches in the United States.

Just minutes to the east, you’ll find Biloxi and the Gulf Islands National Seashore, two of Mississippi’s most visited tourist destinations. What started as a popular summer resort getaway for wealthy New Orleans residents in the early 1800s has now become a popular coastal destination for the whole country. Biloxi shares Gulfport’s beautiful white sand beaches and is also home to a lively entertainment and nightlife industry with plenty of visitors coming for the city’s famed casinos.

Whether you’re interested in trying your hand in the Las Vegas of the south, surfing the waves and relaxing on the beach, or checking out some American historical sites, there’s something for everyone in Biloxi. If it’s seafood you’re after, there’s plenty of that, and you can even go on your own shrimping trip.

From Biloxi, you can easily reach Alabama’s Gulf Coast, Mobile, and the Florida panhandle along I-10. Although you’ll find plenty to do on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, it’s also a great jumping off point for a longer RV trip.

Now that you’re ready to hit the beach with your RV rental in Mississippi, check out the best campgrounds and RV parks near Mississippi’s Gulf Coast.
