How To Pick The Best RV Bumper Bike Rack For Your RV

RVing with the comforts of home is just what we love when traveling, and this includes taking our bikes. But how do we attach those bikes to our RVs? Choosing the best RV bumper bike rack for your RV can be a challenge, but with the right information you will be able to pick the best RV bumper bike rack for your RV.

There are several different styles of RV bumper bike racks.  Here are the things you should consider before purchasing any kind of RV bumper bike rack:

  • What types of bikes do you want to bring along?
  • What kind of accessibility do you need?
  • What is your RV’s compatibility?

How do you want to mount your bikes to your RV vehicle, and is it the right choice?

The bumper RV bike rack which is attached to the steel frame, on the rear bumper, is a common method. The RV bike rack bumper mount attaches by using U-bolts. RV bumpers may need extra re-enforcement, before attaching the bike rack to the RV bumper, since RV bumpers aren’t designed for added weight. Ratcheting straps are not included, so be sure to purchase them. This way you can safely secure your bikes to the bumper bike rack. Bungee cords will also work.

The RV bumper bike rack holds the bikes in place by one or two carry arms, by holding the top bar, while the remainder of the bike hangs down. Sometimes the arms can swing or fold in. Check your model if this is an option you want. One advantage, to using the RV bumper mount bike rack, is that you’re not restricted, getting to your tow vehicle. However, you are adding onto your overall tow length.

The Swagman 2-Bike RV Bumper Rack is made of solid steel, attaches to your bumper, and easily transports two bikes.

The Swagman 4-Bike RV Bumper Rack will carry 4 bikes, and is easy to load. Bikes stand on a sturdy platform, and are strapped on. It mounts onto a welded bumper that should be 4 to 4.5 inches in thickness. The Swagman 4-Bike Bumper Rack is easy to install, and can handle a weight of 30 pounds for each bike. Ratcheting straps or bungee cords are needed, to secure bikes to the bumper bike rack.

Bike racks can even be fitted to campers. The Swagman 4-Bike Mighty Rack is a great addition, to carry bikes on pop-up campers and travel trailers. As with the other bumper bike racks, be sure to purchase some kind of tie-downs, for securing the bikes to the rack. This camper bumper bike rack actually attaches to the towing frame of the pop-up camper.

As you see, there are plenty of RV bumper bike racks to choose from. As we travel, we want our comforts, and for many that means taking our bikes. With all these RV bumper bike rack options, we shouldn’t have to leave one of our favorite pastimes behind.
