Turn your RV into a Haunted House this Halloween!

RV Owners

Fall is here, and you know what that means… things are getting a little bit spooky! Although pumpkin spice everything and cozy sweaters are near and dear to our hearts, we can’t deny it: Halloween might just be our favorite thing about autumn.

It’s a super-fun time to take an RV trip, too, whether you hit up haunted campgrounds or spooky U.S. cities — or even if you’re just out to see some beautiful changing fall leaves. You’ll even save 50% on your campground accommodations when you use your Passport America membership!

But if you’re traveling during All Hallow’s Eve, you may be worried you won’t be able to participate in one of the best parts of the holiday: decking out your living space with ghoulish and gruesome haunted house decorations! Dressing up your house is almost as much fun as dressing up yourself, after all.

Never fear — or actually, do fear, but only in the best way possible. You can totally transform your rig into a haunted house on wheels this year, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. And yes, you can totally do better than just throwing some fake cobwebs up… although that’s certainly a start!

So, ready to deck out your rig out in its spooky best? Here’s how.

Easy Haunted House Decorations

If you’ve so much as glanced at the seasonal aisle at Target, you know that easy-to-install indoor Halloween decorations are available in abundance, just waiting to turn your abode into a scare zone, whether it’s on wheels or not.

Some of the stuff they come up with is pretty darn cute… in a creepy sort of way. For example, this giant spider’s got glowing eyes and makes spooky noises, and these hanging skeleton ghosts are sure to give visiting campers a fright when they first see them. And then there’s this super-scary cocoon corpse decoration if you’re feeling really adventurous and committed to this whole give-your-neighbors-the-shivers endeavor.

Of course, all that pre-made Halloween home decor can quickly add up and totally drain your camping budget, even if you search for discounted decorations on Amazon.

But that doesn’t mean you have to give up on turning your RV into the creepiest spot in the campground.

From classic creepy cobweb cloth to removable wall and window decals, turning your RV into the haunted house of your dreams — or nightmares — doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive.

Cheap Haunted House Decoration Ideas

Instead of going all out with lots of intricate haunted house party decorations, you can create a spooky space simply by getting creative with a few cheap and reusable Halloween props. After all, if you’re looking to make an immersive “haunted” experience, it’s really not about any one individual decoration as much as it is the design of the whole area.

For instance, check out what some clever campers at the Lake Rudolph Campground in Santa Claus, Indiana came up with for the annual Halloween bash. Although they have a couple of fancy decorations, the best thing is their creative use of their outdoor camping space as well as decorating the RV’s interior. And from hay bales to Indian corn, many cheap outdoor Halloween decorations are also the most effective. (Plus, you can actually pop those ears of corn once October passes!)

And we love these DIY skeletons by Karen in the Woods and fam — and it looks like all they take to make are some plain old PVC pipes and bleach canisters!

Plus, creating inexpensive DIY haunted house decorations is just plain fun. Sure, you could shell out the eight bucks or so for these creepy keep-out signs… or you could gather up some sharpies and cardboard and make your own. It’s a fun way for the kids to spend a rainy day of camping!

Best Halloween Decorating Ideas

Whether it’s for a haunted house or a Halloween party, some of the very best spooky decorating ideas are also the most fun and cherished.

For instance, you just can’t go wrong with carving a Jack-o’-lantern. Not only is it fun to do, but you also get all those yummy pumpkin seeds to roast up and snack on!

If you don’t exactly consider yourself a talented designer, don’t worry: You can always fall back on the easy and affordable pumpkin carving kits that are so widely available. They include designs in a variety of levels as well as all the knives and tools you need to get the job done.

But the best part of pumpkin carving is that it’s so open-ended. Your gourd can be anything you can imagine!

Halloween Decor on a Budget

As you can see, making an incredible Halloween display in your rig isn’t just possible — it’s actually really easy and fun to do. And it doesn’t have to be expensive at all!

For instance, you and the kids could grab some construction paper and scissors and make DIY paper bats in no time flat, which are perfect to hang either inside your RV or under your rig’s awning.

Or maybe a bloody handprint is more your style? It’s a lot simpler than it seems. All you need is plain old glue (yup, the same kind you used in grade school), saran wrap, and food coloring. Talk about bang for your buck! That’s a seriously scary decoration for cents on the dollar.

And don’t forget that one of the easiest and most classic Halloween decorations out there is a ghostly apparition… which takes nothing more than a plain old white sheet. You can pin black felt circles on for eyes rather than marking it up with sharpies!

No matter what kind of decorations you use to turn your RV into a Halloween wonderland, whether you buy them pre-made or get crafty creating them on your own, don’t forget about the most important part of all: the candy!

After all, it’s not really Halloween unless you experience at least a minor sugar rush. Plus, a big heap of fun-size Snickers bars is really all the Halloween party table decor you could ever need.

Happy haunting!
